Author Spotlight: Evan Parrott - Cultivating Worlds of Fantasy and Dreams

Introduction

In today's "Author Spotlight", I'm excited to introduce you to Evan Parrott, a rising star in the world of cultivation fantasy. His Provenance: A Cultivation Story series invites readers into a richly imagined world where dreams are the source of power, and a young cultivator's journey takes him far beyond the confines of his humble beginnings. From childhood games of make-believe to a deep dive into Homeric mythology, Evan's path to becoming an author has been fueled by a lifelong love of storytelling.

From The Cyvonian to Provenance: Evan Parrott's Writing Journey

Evan Parrott's writing journey began in the landscapes of his childhood imagination. Growing up in central British Columbia, Canada, he spent countless hours crafting fantastical worlds and acting them out with friends, using sticks and fake weapons as props. This early passion for storytelling led him to write his first novella, School Fugitive, at the young age of 12. By 13, he knew he wanted to be a writer.

A significant turning point came with the creation of The Cyvonian, a series born from his love for a popular card game, but which quickly evolved into something entirely his own. He developed a unique language, an origin story, and a mythological religion for the Cyvonian people, laying the groundwork for his future world-building. While The Cyvonian series was ultimately unfinished, it ignited a fire in Evan that continues to burn brightly.

During high school, he completed another novel, Dare to Dream, which he self-published in 2010. This early work, while limited in its reach, served as a crucial stepping stone. He further honed his skills and knowledge by earning a Bachelor of Arts degree, double majoring in English literature and Greek and Roman studies, with a particular focus on Homeric mythology. He presented the first of his Greek pocket epic poems at the Interdisciplinary Undergraduate Conference. He also, of course, loves Star Wars.

Now, living in Penticton, British Columbia, with his wife, Madde, his bunny, Lilly, and his cat, Atlas, Evan Parrott is fully immersed in bringing the world of Provenance to life, drawing upon his years of planning, world-building, and a deep-seated love for fantasy.
