Frequently Asked Questions
Q: Where were you born?
A: I was born in South Africa!
Q: What kind of books do you write?
A: I am a multi-genre author with a passion for stories that connect us across time and imagination. Currently, my published work focuses on children’s literature, specifically my Milo the Moss series—gentle, nature-based tales designed to help children navigate big feelings.
However, my writing also ventures into much darker territory. I have a deep love for historical fiction, gothic fantasy, and the supernatural. Whether I’m crafting whimsical stories for children or exploring the mysteries of the past through a supernatural lens, I love blending genres to find the "magic" in the unknown. My current works-in-progress include historical murder mysteries and thrillers that draw heavily from my 20 years of experience as a professional genealogist.
Q: When was your first book released?
A: My debut children’s book, Milo the Moss and the Mighty Big World, was officially released on August 18, 2025. Since then, it’s been a whirlwind! I’ve published several more titles in the Milo series, as well as contributions to the Legends of Camelot and Catskill Chaos anthologies.
I’m always working on something new, with several more releases and new genre projects in development for 2026.
Q: What inspires your writing?
A: My inspiration is a blend of my South African roots, my professional background, and my love for legendary storytelling. J.R.R. Tolkien, a fellow South African native, has always been a massive influence; his depth of world-building is the gold standard I aspire to, whether I’m creating a sprawling fantasy realm or a tiny garden world.
For my children’s series, Milo the Moss, I draw heavily from my time as a game ranger and wildlife photographer. Spending years observing the small, quiet details of nature taught me that the smallest creatures often have the most important stories to tell.
When it comes to my historical and supernatural projects, I am inspired by my 20 years in genealogy. There is something incredibly "calling" about the mysteries of the past and the untold stories of those who came before us. Blending historical accuracy with gothic fantasy and the unknown allows me to explore those "intricate threads" of human connection in a way that feels both grounded and magical.
Q: What is your writing process like?
A: I typically outline my stories in advance. I find it helpful to have a roadmap before I start writing.
Q: What are some of your other interests?
A: I have a wide range of interests! I've been researching genealogy for over 20 years, I'm a gamer (mostly World of Warcraft), I enjoy photography (I used to be a wildlife photographer and game ranger), and I collect antiques, autographs, fairies, and anything owl or snow leopard related. I also have four (or five, depending on who's counting!) tattoos.
Q: What are some of your favourite things?
A: I value kindness above all else. I enjoy TV shows like Supernatural, Castle, Psych, Bones, Law & Order, Doctor Who, and Brooklyn Nine-Nine. My musical tastes lean towards hard rock, alternative rock, metal, punk rock, and emo. I pretty much like most food. And my favourite place in the world is Kruger National Park.
Q: How can I connect with you?
A: I love hearing from readers and fellow writers! While my blog is a great place to keep up with my latest news, the best way to interact with me directly is on social media. You can find me sharing garden updates, research tidbits, and book news on Facebook, Instagram, BlueSky, Threads, and X (all the links can be found at the top of this page). You are also more than welcome to reach out through the contact form right here on my website. Whether you want to talk about Milo the Moss, genealogy, or upcoming supernatural thrillers, please come say hello!
